Our Story

In 1997, Powers of Automation was born in Steve Power’s garage with the singular focus of providing high-quality automation and instrumentation solutions with a commitment to “do it right the first time.” This approach quickly proved to be successful and fostered immediate growth. Within the first two years, Steve included his wife, Edie, to handle administrative and quality duties and his brother, Lonnie, to help with calibration, control panel construction, and installations.

In 2000, after three years of continual growth, POA expanded to meet increasing demand. The company was moved out of the garage and with this move more expertise was added to the team to meet the control design needs of POA customers. This was the beginning of POA as it is known today.

POA became a crucial partner for bio-tech and pharmaceutical companies, food and beverage manufacturers, aviation manufacturers, and energy companies. POA recognized that these industries were becoming progressively more quality-focused due to regulatory requirements. POA became certified to manufacture UL Listed industrial control panels and added skilled team members to produce the highest-quality panels possible. POA then built a world-class, ISO9001-certified Quality Management System and invested in a QMS team to ensure POA’s internal focus on quality exceeded customer expectations.

To this day, POA still has relationships with customers and business partners that started from those early days in the garage.

POA has experienced continual growth. Today the company has expanded its facility and built a professional team to service the needs of its growing list of customers. POA is poised to serve an expanding list of industries facing heavy regulation, such as renewable energy companies and hemp/CBD manufacturers. POA continues to be an invaluable partner for companies looking to increase efficiency and drive innovation.

What Our Partners Say

"In February 2015, the McKesson drug distribution facility in Memphis, Tennessee experienced a roof collapse due to an ice storm. The damage destroyed the touch screen, power supply and programmable logic controller of a cold storage system, threatening the Center for Disease Control's entire US supply of vaccines for children. With Steve and Lonnie Powers leading, the entire POA team provided 24/7 support to McKesson. With POA's collaboration, McKesson was able to stabilize the situation, install a new controller, and get it operational. In this situation, partnering with the right company saved McKesson from a potential $876,000,000 loss."
